North Yard
Bordering Lake Erie and south to East Lake Road, the North Yard is a 74-acre parcel of industrial land. This acreage once housed Hammermill Paper Company, then International Paper Company’s massive paper mills themselves, as access to water was critical. International Paper shuttered operations in 2002 and SB3 took control of these parcels in 2005 after extensive environmental remediation. A short time later, construction began for the Lake Erie Biofuels, dba HERO BX, biodiesel production facility which went online in mid-2007 and is situated on 13 acres. The North Yard boasts a CSX rail line as well as access to Lake Erie.
